Food banks across Washington state are seeing more people walk through its doors, some for the first time, as SNAP benefits are set to be paused on November 1 if the government remains shut down.

If the government shutdown continues, millions of low-income Americans will lose out on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits on Nov. 1.

"We are expecting a surge in demand," said Rebecca Larsen, a director with the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership in Custer and Lemhi counties, who operates a local food bank.
